REDEFINED AND

Rauch/Holz® is carbonized wood produced by the Master of Carpentry Thomas Rauch and his team in his workshop in the island of Usedom.

Our wood is responsible sourced from local forests of the north of Germany and undergoes a very careful carbonization process resulting in a surface that not only enhances the wood's visual appeal by making it strikingly black but also extremely durable and weather resistant.

The traditional method of wood preservation was used by the ancestors of our Baltic region, Slavs and Vikings, in their house and ships construction. It is also known as yakisugi [焼杉] in Japan and it is used until today for modern wooden facades.

We redefined and refined these ancient techniques.

Rauch offers architects, designers, builders and homeowners a material that seamlessly merges tradition with contemporary design. Rauch/Holz® is made for those who seek a unique and ecologically responsible exterior cladding solution but also a distinctive focal point in interior design. We deliver products that reflect our commitment to both timeless beauty and responsible practices.

Inspire us with your ideas, we will craft something unique for you.

Klassik stands out as the top choice for exterior cladding.

Following carbonization, the wood acquires its distinctive texture and a structured surface, featuring a subtle touch of silver glow.

kaiman

Kaiman undergoes a multi-step carbonization process, enhancing its structural strength and defining an irregular pattern reminiscent of alligator skin. It possesses a robust character. Kaiman proves ideal for exterior cladding, as its deeper fire treatment increases its weather resistance.

The wood planks are slightly brushed post-fire treatment, eliminating the first carbon layer to reveal a beautiful (and unexpected) contrasted pattern— incredibly smooth to the touch. Flama undeniably catches the eye.

Fina is simply elegant. The wood is gently brushed and cleaned, resulting in a silky matte surface. Afterward, Fina is polished by hand and coated with a special water-based emulsion to bring back the black that plays beautifully with the light.

Our company's foundation is built on our values and we conduct ourselves in the most environmentally responsible manner possible. Naturally we use only certified wood from local and sustainable forests. We are committed to minimize our impact and we aim to compensate for what we take and inspire our customers to do so too.

We collaborate with a global organization dedicated to combating the climate crisis by planting trees all around the world. For every 1m² of Rauch/Holz® sold, we plant 1 tree through this NGO. This ensures that, as our client, choosing RauchHolz® for your projects is a significant contribution to our environment.

rauch + rauch/holz

hello! My name is thomas rauch

In 2017, I founded the Rauch/Holz Manufaktur on the island of Usedom to produce wooden facades with an eco-friendly, durable treatment on a larger scale. The art of carbonizing wood, like the Vikings and Slavs did in my home region, caught my attention more than 20 years ago. During my traditional carpenter journey around the world, I witnessed long-lasting and resistant buildings with fire-treated wood, especially in Asian and Scandinavian regions.

All these experiences over the years have been put into our Rauch/Holz® products, along with the dedication to create a sustainable, ecologically valuable, high-quality, regionally produced, long-lasting product.

I stand for Rauch/Holz® with my name.
